Louisiana caught my attention around 1981 when I saw the movie "Southern Comfort." This movie revealed to me the magic of the cypress swamps, bayous, and the Cajuns with all of their culture. I knew that at some point in my life, I would have to go there--my dream came true in August, 1996 when I moved to Louisiana--first living in Crowley, briefly--and then, Morgan City for six years. For a time, I was in "heaven." Living on the Gulf Coast gave my two kids who lived with me a rare experience--to have a taste of the "old days." One of my favorite memories is when Vernon and Robyn brought home a big river turtle from the Atchafalaya and wanted to keep it as a pet--I made them take it back to the river. Alligators were numerous--in fact, after a tropical storm, one was laying dead, upside down, in the town of Berwick (across the river). Cajun food and music, and every now and then, a trip to New Orleans ... good times!
