64th Anniversary of the Roswell UFO Crash

Roswell UFO Festival

 July 1July 1-4, 2011

Stanton Friedman, Kathleen Marden, and myself.  Friedman, a nuclear physicist, has investigated the Roswell Crash of 1947 extensively; he has appeared in numerous interviews and UFO videos, has lectured at over 600 colleges, and has written Crash at Corona:  The Definitive Study of the Roswell Incident.   Marden, a full-time writer and lecturer, is the niece of Betty Hill, whose abduction account with her husband Barney, is the topic of the John G. Fuller Book, The Interrupted Journey.  Marden has co-written Captured!  The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience and Science was Wrong with Friedman.  Marden has also appeared in numerous television and radio interviews in the U.S., Canada and in Europe.  During the festival, Friedman gave the lecture "UFOlogy in 2011" and Marden lectured on "Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience."

UFO researchers Tom Carey and Don Schmitt with me.  Carey and Schmitt gave a lecture on "Witness to Roswell", which focused on reluctant witnesses who knew what happened but refused to divulge information.  Schmitt, with Kevin Randle, has also investigated and studied the Roswell Crash extensively; Carey contributed to their book, The Truth About the UFO Crash at Roswell.  Carey has a Masters in Anthropology from California State University, Sacramento and has a fellowship to pursue a Ph.D in Anthropology at the University of Toronto.  From 1986 to 2002, Carey was the MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) State Section Director of Southeastern Pennsylvania.  Schmitt is the former co-director of the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies in Chicago.  Schmitt graduated from MATC with a degree in Commercial Art and graduated cum laude from Concordia University with a degree in Liberal Arts; he is currently taking graduate courses in Criminal Justice.

Here I'm with Julie Shuster, the Executive Director of the International UFO Museum.   Shuster is the daughter of Walter Haut, who was the Public Information Officer for the 509th Bomb Group stationed in Roswell in 1947; Haut was ordered by base commander Col. William Blanchard to draft and send the press release announcing that the U.S. Army Air Force had recovered a crashed "flynig disc" from a local ranch.  Haut was a co-founder of the UFO Museum in 1991 and was its president until 1996.  Julie is a very pleasant lady and was also involved in coordinating the entire UFO Festival besides running operations at the UFO Museum.

During the 4th of July weekend, it would be impossible to think of celebrating the nation's birthday without a visit from Uncle Sam himself! on stilts!

Travis Walton signing an autograph.  Walton was abducted by a UFO in the White Mountains along the Mogollon Rim in Arizona.  Walton was missing for five days.  The incident was witnessed by six co-workers and all undertook lie detector tests which showed they were being truthful.  The abduction took place on November 5, 1975.  The movie and book, Fire in the Sky, relate the Walton Experience.

Here I am with Travis Walton (he had just autographed a poster for me).

A new animated alien and flying saucer display at the UFO Museum--which was not there during the previous UFO Festival.  (Scroll to the bottom of this page for a video).

An historic event in UFOlogy--four researchers not seen together in the same setting in 20 years:  Kevin Randle, Don Schmitt, Tom Carey and Staton Friedman--all took part in the Roswell Panel on Saturday night, July 2.  Randle, who hadn't been back to the UFO Museum since its dedication in 1991, had dropped out of the UFO research field for a number of years.  Randle and Schmitt had teamed up to write a couple of UFO books on the Roswell Crash.

Also invited to sit along with Randle, Schmitt, Carey and Friedman on the Roswell Panel was new UFO researcher Frank Kimbler (far left in yellow shirt), a geologist who teaches Earth and Physical Sciences at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell.  In this scene, Kimbler is displaying trash and junk that he found during his recent investigation of an alleged crash site at Horse Springs, NM on the Plains of San Agustin (near the Very Large Array).  Kimbler related that some investigators are anxious to declare such junk as UFO artifacts and debis without the use of analysis and common sense.  Kimbler says the Horse Springs site is nothing more than a dump.

Another piece of junk on display from Horse Springs, NM as the other panel members listen to Kimbler talk about what he found at the site.

(For photographs provided by Frank Kimbler of AH-1 (an intriguing metallic piece found at the Roswell debris field), click on the page by that name located on the sidebar navigation).

One of the graphics during Kimbler's lecture "Roswell Artifacts".  Three interesting items he also found were metal buttons (lower right on the projection screen)--two on top of the ground and the other a few inches under the soil--all which may be part of military uniforms from 1947!  The Roswell base had Army Airmen scour the field for debris and wreckage, attempting to leave nothing behind.

Here I am with Kevin Randle, a former military Intelligence Officer and Public Affairs Officer, who has studied UFOs for over 40 years.  Randle has a Masters and Doctoral degree in Psychology and another in the Art of Military Science.  Randle has investigated a number of UFO sightings over the years--from Roswell to the UFO radar sightings over Washington, DC in 1952 and the latest abduction cases.  Randle has published many books, including The UFO Casebook and Roswell Revisted.   With Don Schmitt, he co-wrote UFO Crash at Roswell and The Truth About the UFO Crash at Roswell.  Randle participated on the Roswell Panel on Saturday night, July 2--this was the first time he had been back to the Roswell UFO Museum since 1991 (20 years!).

A male and femal EBE visiting the UFO Museum; they had taken an interest in the alien display in the background when the female suddenly caught a glimpse of me ... and made contact with my belly!

Travis Walton durinig his lecture "Fire in the Sky" on Sunday, July 3, 2011--which included watching some scenes from the movie and clips from varoius interviews; Walton also had artist depictions made of his experiences to help provide a visual understanding of what he actually experienced.  Walton, now with years to reflect, says he has thought that maybe what he experienced wasn't an "abduction" but a "rescue"--during his encounter with the UFO, he had been hit wtih a beam or a force that propelled him about ten to twenty feet in the air; his six co-workers who witnessed the event thought he was dead, and they ran for their lives.  Walton wonders if the aliens didn't take him to their base (or wherever it was that they took him) not to do "tests" on him, but to give him medical help from the trauma he received.

Here I am with actor Roy Thinnes, who played David Vincent, Architect, in the 1960's television series, The Invaders.  Thinnes also appeared in The X-Files.  Thinnes was one of two celebrity guests who appeared at the 2011 UFO Festival; the other was Mira Furlan, who starred in Babylon 5 and Lost.
